→ This introductory talk presents a kaleidoscopic selection of theories and frames of reference that look at money from a historical, anthropological, social and technological perspective, tracing its shape from debt relations, to coinage and all the way to cryptocurrencies and beyond.
Collective Speculations of Convenient Mutualisms

→ A collaborative game where a group of participants roleplay through a decade of starting, sustaining and evolving a self-governed mutualist store set in a fictitious alternative present in Mexico City. Players move through cycles by writing down their protocolitos: agreements to collaborate which must adapt as the setting evolves. A local, open-source AI acts as the game-engine, assessing the players’ moves and generating new scenarios.
Libraries of things & organizing a commons

→ Become part of a micro-commons by creating and sustaining a shared library of things! In this half theoretical, half practical session we will discuss theories of the commons and put them into minimal practice through the software alot (a library of things), a decentralized software for communities to keep a collective inventory of things without the need of a fixed physical space.

→ If the globalized notion of a bank originated from the European banco, the merchant’s bench, what might a bank look like if it had emerged elsewhere? The BanKanga space will be activated with a series of protocol activations – a temporary community is invited to cast spells for a post-money bank, invoking a gradually growing infrastructure of reciprocity. Rather than presenting alternate economies as historical curiosities, these gatherings activate them as living social technologies through collective experimentation.

Pablo Somonte Ruano (Mexico City, 1992) works as a designer, coder and artist creating experimental software, visual protocols, generative systems, transmedia narratives, collaborative tactics and odd music. Their practice explores prefigurative politics, alternative economies, structural violence, decentralized technologies and the commons, while engaging with the politics of computation, language, value, time and games.
Pablo is a core contributor to the Economic Space Agency (ECSA) an economic technology and imagination network for distributed economic agency, a member of the Crypto Commons Association (CCA) A non-profit organization exploring the use of distributed ledger technologies for furthering the commons, a participant of the Collaborative Finance gathering and a member of the Red de Estudios en Postcapitalismo (REP).
Pablo’s worked has been presented in various places in North America and Europe including Casa del Lago UNAM CDMX, Centro de Cultura Digital CDMX, Museo Tamayo CDMX, Centro Cultural Tlatelolco CDMX, Spedition Bremen, Shwankhalle Bremen, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, STRP Festival Eindhoven, Panke Gallery Berlin, Matadero Medialab Madrid, School for Poetic Computation NY, University of the Arts London and MFRU International Festival for Computer Arts, Maribor among others.
