Mari Lena Rapprich und Florian Witt starten am Mittwoch, den 17. Januar im thealit Arbeitszimmer mit Tower Place, einem Forschungsexperiment, einer multimodalen Zeichnung … Bei The Art of Emergency beginnt eine neue Residency. 

Für Samstag den 27. Januar, ab 17 Uhr sollte schon mal ein Platz im Kalender frei gehalten werden, die beiden planen dann eine Präsentation aus ihrer Arbeit im Arbeitszimmer thealit, St.-Jürgen-Straße 157/159 in Bremen. 
Ausgangspunkt für Tower Place bildet ein Gesellschafts- und Geschicklichkeitsspiel, Jenga, das neu reflektiert und erforscht wird, mit und ohne Regeln. Was lässt sich mittels der dort spielerisch geregelten Elemente Fundament, Statik, Konstruktion, Intention innerhalb des Spielkontexts – und darüber hinaus – verstehen? Soviel vorab: ‚Jenga’ ist Swahili und bedeutet: Konstruktion. (Oder wie andere meinen: Bau!)
Die Künstler:innen erklären einige interessierende spiellogische Elemente und Ihre Fragestellung so: „Um einen Ausblick zu bekommen, muss der Turm groß werden. Bausteine sind begrenzt, je besser die Aussicht, desto instabiler die Basis. Der Zusammensturz gehört dazu, der Wiederaufbau auch. Ist das wirklich eine Krise?” Und: „In vermuteter Parallelität zu gesellschaftlichen Systemen geht es auch bei Jenga um Gedanken des stetigen Weiterbaus, drohenden Zusammenbrüchen und einer immer währenden Sehnsucht nach Stabilität. Der Ausnahmezustand ist hier allerdings normal, sogar fester und gewünschter Bestandteil des Spielverlaufs. Direkte und indirekte Übersetzungen bieten sich an, um Handlungsprämisse und Perspektiven für die Echtwelt zu finden und/oder zu entwickeln. Kein Bau ohne Intention.” 
Mari Lena Rapprich und Florian Witt wollen mit Tower Place „verschiedene (zeichnerische) Zugriffe erproben und ausgehend von dem Spiel Jenga die Stabilität und Instabilität von Systemen untersuchen. Tower Place ist als ergebnisoffenes, künstlerisches Experiment gedacht, welches sich in Baustein, Zeichnung, Text und Publikation finden kann.” 

Mari Lena Rapprich ist Künstler:in, Kurator:in und Researcher, lebt in Bremen und arbeitet zwischen systematischen Zeichnungen und experimentellen Klanglandschaften. Ausgangspunkt sind häufig Schreib- und Ordnungssysteme, denen sich die Hand unterzuordnen hat. Vorhandene Systeme dienen als Handlungsanweisung für zeichnerische und/oder auditive Prozesse, in denen die Wiederholung, rhythmische Bewegungen, das Scheitern als produktiver Moment und Zeitlichkeit angelegt sind. 2020 publizierte sie das Künstler:inbuch ‚Repeat’ mit dem dazugehörigen Tape ‚24:06’ und forscht aktuell künstlerisch wie wissenschaftlich zur Analogie von Zeichnung und Weben sowie zum Ton im Film. marilenarapprich.de instagram.com/mlrampe

Florian Witt ist Künstler:in, lebt in Bremen und arbeitet zeichnerisch-malerisch auf/mit Papier, Leinwänden, Holzkonstruktionen und Skulpturen. Oftmals bestehen die zeichnerischen Übersetzungen von menschlichen Artefakten, Infrastrukturen und architektonischen Konstruktionen nur als fragmentarischen Formen und werden sowohl in ihrer Aneignung dekonstruiert und neu zusammengesetzt als auch durch das Material selbst, welches sich durch mehrfach überlagerte Farbschichten, dilettantischen Holzschnitte und humorvolle Doppeldeutigkeiten zusammensetzt. A new residency begins at The Art of Emergency. Mari Lena Rapprich and Florian Witt will start on Wednesday, January 17 in the thealit Arbeitszimmer with Tower Place, a research experiment, a multimodal drawing ... For Saturday, January 27, starting at 5 pm, you should already keep a place in your calendar free, the two are then planning a presentation of their work in the thealit Arbeitszimmer, St.-Jürgen-Straße 157/159 in Bremen. 
The starting point for Tower Place is a parlor game and a game of physical skill too, Jenga, which is revisited and explored, with and without rules. What can be understood through the elements of foundation, statics, construction and intention within the context of the game - and beyond? This much in advance: 'Jenga' is Swahili and means construction. (Or, as others say: Build!)
The artists explain some of the game-logical elements of interest and their question as follows: "To get a view, the tower has to be tall. Building blocks are limited, the better the view, the more unstable the base. The collapse is part of it, as is the reconstruction. Is this really a crisis?" And: "In presumed parallelism to social systems, Jenga is also about thoughts of constant further development, imminent collapse and an everlasting longing for stability. Here, however, the state of emergency is normal, even a fixed and desired part of the gameplay. Direct and indirect translations lend themselves to finding and/or developing action premises and perspectives for the real world. No construction without intention." 
With Tower Place, Mari Lena Rapprich and Florian Witt want to "prove different (drawing) approaches and examine the stability and instability of systems based on the game Jenga. Tower Place is intended as an open-ended, artistic experiment that can be found in building blocks, drawings, texts and publications."

Mari Lena Rapprich is an artist, curator and researcher, lives in Bremen and works between systematic drawings and experimental soundscapes. Starting points are often systems of writing and order, to which the hand has to be subordinate. Existing systems serve as instructions for drawing and/or auditory processes in which repetition, rhythmic movements, failure as a productive moment and temporality are created. Florian Witt is an artist, lives in Bremen and works with drawing and painting on/with paper, canvas, wooden constructions and sculptures. The graphic translations of human artifacts, infrastructure and architectural constructions often only exist as fragmentary forms and are deconstructed and reassembled both in their appropriation and through the material itself, which is composed of multiple layers of paint, amateurish woodcuts and humorous ambiguities.
